Not since Ray J and Kim Kardashian took a camcorder into their bedroom has a video by somebody within the music and entertainment industry caused such a stir.
Step forward established and popular British rapper and MC, Skepta (pronounced Skep-tah), whose video entitled ‘All Over the House’ features graphic, and explicit nudity and penetrative sexual scenes before being banned on popular video sharing website YouTube.
All Over the House Video
The video, which is too explicit to be linked to Suite101.com, is approximately 4 minutes long and features a rather phlegmatic Skepta (real name Joseph Junior Adenuga) on the windowsill of a room nonchalantly recalling the times he made love to an old squeeze.
The MC from Tottenham, North London jauntily gives a braggadocio about his ability to make love ‘all over the house’, before the scene quickly swings away from him and focuses on a black male and a white female, nicknamed Paris Rocks who concomitantly engage in extremely graphic acts of a sexual nature.
Three verses and the subsequent choruses follow, but the insuperability of passing over the pukey images on show are only matched by Skepta’s rather inane lyrics.
Banned From YouTube
Unsurprisingly, the video has been quickly blacklisted on major and many minor UK and American music websites.
Fulminating viewers and bemused fans have quickly flagged up the inappropriateness of Skepta’s decision to mix adult entertainment and UK Hip-Hop/Garage together and the video has been officially banned from YouTube.
Why Did Skepta Do It?
Questions as to Skepta’s motivations preluding his decision to make such an expostulatory video are quickly beginning to surface.
This is of course the same Skepta who made the fabulously choreographed UK and European club-hit ‘Rolex Sweep’ and recently released his new album entitled ‘Doing it Again’ to roaring success. The dichotomy could not be more prevalent.
Nevertheless, Skepta, who drives a white Audi S3, has proved that he is not afraid to let his personality powerfully radiate throughout his music.
One reason mooted as to why Skepta decided to forage into such territory is his decision to ‘crack’ the American market.
With fellow compatriots Chipmunk flying high alongside Chris Brown and Hounslow star Jay Sean well established in the States, it is thought Skepta wanted to try a different means – with the video (which is available on worldstarhiphop.com) being a way to potentially break into into the States where the big money is. Of course publicity - whether good or bad - is never a bad thing either.
In late 2010, the Nigerian-born musician released ‘ Mike Lowery ’, a video where, aside from the fact that he magnificently rhymes in every two lines, sees him engage in acts of physical brutality as he mercilessly tortures his haters in a Saw-like bloodfest.
Skepta Not the Only One
Skepta however is not the only major British rapper and artist who has sought to blend adult themes into his music.
N-Dubz star Dappy released a video lionizing his fondness for making love, as have respected garage groups Roll Deep and Fire Camp, led as it were by artist Lethal Bizzle in the video ‘You Wanna Be the Best’ which featured real adult female pornstars.
In the US rappers such as Tupac Shakur, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg amongst many others have all in the past released explicit adult videos with no compunction.
